About this course

Sound Trail Grade 1 picks up where the Pre-K to K course ends. Each week adds one set of spelling patterns in order, from sh and ch to blends, silent e, vowel teams, bossy r, endings and two-syllable words, and every Read it yourself line uses only patterns and heart words already taught. Every line is read aloud and every week is free.

Kids will

  • Tell long and short vowel sounds apart
  • Read words with sh, ch, th, wh, ng and nk
  • Blend words with consonant blends like fr, st and mp
  • Read silent e words and vowel teams like ee, ai, oa and igh
  • Read words with ar, or, er, ir and ur, and with -s, -ed and -ing
  • Read two-syllable words and know Grade 1 heart words by sight
